While hosting Thanksgiving dinner is first on my
mind, (hoping I don't have any disasters this year like the one when my glass casserole cracked into tiny pieces -- when I rested it on a stovetop element that was still on -- that made their way into the stuffing), thoughts of Christmas and what to get people sneak in from time to
time. Food Consultant Phoebe Hopkins,
owner of Phoebe’s Pure Food, host of the weekly pod cast Two Weird Hungry Girls, and
author of Phoebe’s Pure Foods digital magazine (fall/winter issue will be available late Dec, early Jan), has a food pantry on her website where she curates an amazing selection of, mostly, locally made
goodies. You can buy the products individually to make a food basket for a gift or she can package items for you in a gift box to mail directly to the lucky, food-loving recipient. Things like Squirrel Crazy Maple Honey Cream by Bumbleberry Farms (could the name of this farm be any darn cuter?) in Somerset, PA, Gilda's Lemon Fig Biscotti and Orange Crush hot sauce by Homesweet Homegrown. When I went to Bumbleberry Farms' website, I spotted this recipe -- an apple pie where you can actually ditch the pie pan -- caramel apple hand pies! Here's a story I wrote on sourcing local when entertaining that featured Phoebe's business.
